The future is inherently unknowable to us. However, just because it is difficult to predict the future does not mean that we ought not to plan for it. We are often told that “a failure to plan is a plan for failure”, and experience tells us that this is correct.

With this view in mind, we have developed a series of techniques and skills to help our clients make the most of future opportunities as they arise.

Our services in this area will vary according to requirements of each client. Each client has differing needs in terms of event horizons, the depth of research required, and the level of complexity brought to each project.

Generally speaking, each project will go through a process whereby we define the issues, we look at evidence of current trends, we extrapolate the trends into the future, and then we look at the factors that might cause the trends to change. It is customary for us to then provide the client with a number of possible futures and a series of milestones whereby they are able to see which possible future is turning into a likely future.

Services include:

· Strategic planning - using the key information within an organization to identify key trends into the future.

· Scenario planning - looking at a range of possible outcomes in which an organisation will have to operate.

· Simulations - a form of modelling that looks at alternative futures as the result of different policy decisions.

· Futures research - looking at possible answers to specific questions about the future.

· Seminars and publications.
